Middlesbrough are keen on signing FC Metz’s Cheikh Sabaly this summer, according to a report from France.
Last season, Sabaly mainly operated as a striker and at times on the wings, managing 15 goals and four assists from 37 games. He played a key role in helping his side secure promotion to the top flight.
The 26-year-old is in his final year of contract and Middlesbrough want to take him away from Metz.
That’s according to Foot Mercato, and they report the Senegal international is in advanced negotiations with the Championship club.
It’s claimed the attacker is tempted by Middlesbrough’s project and could quickly make a switch to Riverside Stadium.
The outlet says a ‘nice move is about to be completed’ to Boro. However, they don’t mention the negotiations between the two clubs or if Metz are getting what they want.
Sébastien Denis and Josué Cassé covered the report for Foot Mercato and their colleague, Santi Aouna, took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to provide more.
He claims Middlesbrough are closing in on this operation as their ‘agreement is almost done’ with Metz, and are finalising the deal with Sabaly. Aouna has also not provided any figure in his report.
