The reason is the personal scandal that the 28-year-old currently finds himself embroiled in. He was forced to release a statement this week regarding claims he had been involved in a kidnapping plot. He is now seeking legal advice on the matter.
“In light of the publications and statements circulating recently, I feel it is necessary to speak out clearly and unequivocally. I categorically reject any accusation or attempt to link my name to events, conflicts, or conduct that are completely unrelated to me,” the statement said.
What’s behind it all?
Marca say the West Ham man is ‘seeking to nip in the bud’ any association to the claims and the circulating rumours. He is so far refusing to provide further public details, perhaps while he seeks legal advice.
Either way, Faitelson reports that he will be missing from the Mexico squad as a result. According to reports, ‘the coaching staff is prioritising keeping the situation separate from the team while the footballer’s personal matters are clarified.’
It’s a major blow for the new Mexico boss. He will have to find a way to start his new role without a key player as his personal issues off the pitch cause concern.
