Nottingham Forest remain in control of Douglas Luiz’s immediate future, despite reports from Brazil linking him with a possible return to Vasco da Gama.

Brazilian outlet Bolavip reports Douglas Luiz has shown interest in rejoining Vasco, the club where he developed as a youth player. Still, the report does not suggest advanced talks. Instead, it reflects uncertainty around his current situation in England.

Douglas Luiz is on loan at Nottingham Forest from Juventus until the end of the season. The deal includes an option to buy. That clause depends on the midfielder reaching a set number of Premier League appearances during the 2025-26 campaign.

That figure has been put at 15 games in Italy. If Forest activate the option, the fee would be around €30m.

So far, Douglas Luiz has played six of Forest’s 17 league matches. He started five of those games. However, he has not scored or registered an assist. As a result, the club continue to assess his role and long-term suitability.

In Brazil, the Vasco angle appears mainly emotional. Reports point to Philippe Coutinho’s presence at the Rio de Janeiro club as an added attraction – they played together in the club’s youth ranks.

Douglas Luiz also has strong ties to Vasco, having progressed through their academy before turning professional in 2016.

For now, Nottingham Forest hold the key decision. The midfielder’s future depends on his involvement in the coming months and whether he convinces the club to turn the loan into a permanent move.
