Niclas Füllkrug has suffered two different injuries since joining West Ham United from Borussia Dortmund last summer.
The Germany international picked up an Achilles tendon injury in September and that kept him on the sidelines until the end of November.
After returning, Füllkrug managed two goals and an assist from six league games before suffering another setback against Aston Villa in the FA Cup earlier this month.
On January 12th, West Ham announced the striker has ‘sustained a hamstring injury’ and will be out of action for ‘a number of weeks’.
This week’s edition of SportBild provides fresh updates on the 31-year-old’s situation. His last setback is ‘not as bad as previously thought’.
The report states the former BVB man suffered a ‘muscle injury in the back of his thigh, but his tendon did not completely tear’.
This means the player doesn’t have to undergo surgery and the recovery period is 8-12 weeks. Füllkrug, for his part, is hoping to return to the pitch in the second half of March.
He’s working on his recovery at West Ham’s facilities and his focus is on ‘building muscle’.
Werder Bremer’s Marvin Ducksch is in regular contact with his former teammate.
He told SportBild: “Fülle and I are in regular contact, and I know him well. I am convinced that he will come back stronger after this injury.”
