Towards the end of last summer, Espanyol rejected Arsenal’s €20m offer for goalkeeper Joan García.
On January 7th, we covered claims from Spain which stated the Gunners are still keen on signing the 23-year-old.
Recent claims from the UK have stated Arsenal met with García’s agent during their last week’s trip to Spain to face Girona.
Thursday’s edition of Sport relays that and then gives their own take on Arsenal’s interest in the stopper.
They state the Spaniard showed willingness to join the Premier League club last summer. Taking this into account, the newspaper states Arsenal won’t have a problem reaching a ‘verbal agreement’ with the player.
Espanyol are still refereeing to García’s clause and want this to be paid in full to sanction a move. Mundo Deportivo state his clause is set at €25m and will rise to €30m for last 15 days of each window.
Sport now report Arsenal continue to keep an eye on the goalkeeper as Mikel Arteta ‘really likes’ him.
García is one of the stars of the La Liga side. The report states his sale will be ‘painful, but necessary’ for a club that’s struggling financially. In fact, they have to raise funds in order to reshape their squad next season.
In short, Espanyol would welcome García’s sale in the summer, and this should please Arsenal.
