Over the past few days the Italian media had largely given up on Juventus’ chances of signing Lloyd Kelly from Newcastle United in the winter market.

The Serie A side had been set on a loan with a purchase option in the summer, wanting to keep the power over whether to buy the defender in their own hands. On the other side of negotiations, Newcastle United didn’t want Kelly to go unless there was the near-guarantee of a permanent transfer on the way.

That looked to have killed the potential move and Juventus started to look at other last minute targets.

Things have since been revived, with Gianluca Di Marzio reporting the Turin club are still working on it. Newcastle United and Juventus are ‘struggling’ to reach a final agreement but it’s thought, or hoped, that could change in the coming hours.

As it stands, the transfer could be concluded for a €3m loan fee and a buying clause triggered by ‘simple conditions’ which will be worth €13-14m. There’d be further bonuses on top of that, but the report states those bonuses would be difficult to achieve.
