Gabri Veiga’s emergence in his first full season at Celta de Vigo has seen him attract a lot of attention from clubs across Europe, including Newcastle United.
The midfielder has scored nine goals and registered four assists from 26 league games this season. His form has seen many clubs knock on his door.
According to Atlántico, Newcastle are one of those to have ‘confirmed their interest’ in the 20-year-old.
Although the Spain U21 international is without an agent, it’s already known the La Liga side take his departure for ‘granted’ in the summer. Celta are aware they cannot compete with his suitors, who can at least double what he’s currently earning with them.
It’s said seven clubs have already made an approach, either with the Spanish side or the player himself. This includes Newcastle, Napoli, AC Milan and four English clubs.
The Spaniard has a €40m release clause in his deal. Celta have insisted they don’t intend to negotiate his departure and the club that reaches an agreement with Veiga would have to activate his clause.
Last month, AS stated Newcastle will be ‘securing the bargain of the summer’ if they end up acquiring Veiga’s services for €40m.
With Newcastle already making an approach, Eddie Howe’s side are in contention to seal a bargain deal in the next window.
