Arsenal remain the realistic solution for Atlético Madrid’s Julián Alvarez in the last week of the summer window.

Barcelona have publicly expressed their desire to sign him and also sent an offer. The 26-year-old is desperate to join them. However, Los Rojibalncos have confirmed they won’t let him join the La Liga winners.

The striker seems to have accepted he can’t join Barca. He still wants to leave the Madrid club, and Arsenal can offer him an escape route.

Evaluating Arsenal option

On Friday, Sport Witness covered a report from Spain explaining that it’s possible for him to end up at the Emirates move.

Earlier this week, the Argentina international had held a five-hour meeting with his agent, Fernando Hidalgo, and lawyers.

D Sports in Argentina also report on the ’emergency meeting’ at his residence, and journalist Juan Furlanich shares updates on his immediate future.

He states Julián Alvarez has to either continue at Atlético Madrid or join Arsenal, and the first remains complicated.

“… to stay at Atlético and try to reverse a relationship that is currently complex, where Julián doesn’t want to stay, but the club does,” he said.

“[Atlético] want to keep the striker, and that’s important news. They don’t want to let him go, as long as he agrees to stay and fight for a place.

“The other possibility is Arsenal. There isn’t another one. It would mean accepting the offer and going to play.”

Arsenal waiting for gesture

Juan Furlanich reports the Premier League winners want the Argentina international to make a gesture for them to then move to sign him.

“Arsenal is asking Julián Álvarez to express his desire to play for the club. That’s why they haven’t made any moves to try to sign him,” Furlanich explained.

“That’s why they didn’t make an offer or start talks with Atlético Madrid. They’re waiting for Julián to say, ‘I want to go to England’ or ‘I’d like to play in England’.”

ESPN’s SportCenter shares an update from journalist Esteban Edul, who states Arsenal have ‘more chances’ to sign Álvarez before Tuesday’s deadline.
