Tottenham star Sandro Tonali has insisted that Monday’s win over Coventry was a watershed moment for their season.
Spurs beat Coventry on Monday, with goals from James Maddison, Omar Marmoush and Ben Davies securing a 3-1 victory.
It was their first win of the season to date, lifting Spurs off the bottom of the Premier League table and ending a frustrating six-game winless streak to kick off the campaign.
The pressure had been growing thanks to a poor start to the season that had followed a huge summer in which they spent £334m on new signings to reshape Roberto de Zerbi’s squad.
That spend had led to expectations that they could be contenders at the top of the Premier League after years of fighting relegation. Instead, they have found themselves in the wrong half of the table once again.
Expectations
Tonali admits that they’re aware of the expectations on them. And they’re now treating Monday’s win as the close of the first part of the season.
“Monday marked, in a way, the conclusion of this first part of the season,” Milan News report him saying to Sky in Italy.
“It’s a process of continuous growth; rather than dwelling on how we started, we need to focus on the positives.
“Our performances have been excellent, and everyone is very fond of the manager—who, incidentally, suffers more than anyone else here at Tottenham. We know we owe it to him to give our all, because, in truth, we haven’t achieved anything yet.
“Over the past week, we’ve really come together as a group, and we can’t stop now. We have a tough away match coming up; we need to stay positive and play our own brand of football.”

Upcoming games

Whether Tottenham can build on that victory in the coming weeks. They certainly have a run of fixtures in which they will be eyeing maximum points.
After beating Chelsea away they take on Crystal Palace, Leeds, Ipswich Town and Sunderland, although only two of those are at home.
They are, though, certainly fixtures that De Zerbi and his team would have eyed beforehand and thought they could get points from. Now, after the win over Coventry, it seems they are determined to make that happen.
