Manchester United have opened talks to sign Benjamin Pavard from Bayern Munich, according to claims from Germany.

Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg writes that the Red Devils have ‘concrete talks’ going on for his switch to Old Trafford.

The reporter says ‘all parties involved’ are currently working on a verbal agreement with Manchester United.

The reason Erik ten Hag wants the Frenchman is said to be because he’s a ‘versatile’ defender.

And what could help Manchester United with their pursuit is that Pavard ‘wants to leave’ Bayern Munich this month.

Reports from the English media have been saying today that Harry Maguire is on his way to West Ham United, so Erik ten Hag could want his defence strengthened after that.

Pavard may originally be a right-back, but also plays as a centre-back and could be an interesting option for the Red Devils depending on their needs.

Plettenberg doesn’t seem to have any information on how much this transfer would cost. The player’s contract with Bayern Munich is expiring next year, and he’s valued by Transfermarkt at €40m.
