Barcelona were interested in Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford before his loan move to Aston Villa in the winter market.

A ‘confidential’ report from Tuesday’s edition of Sport talks about the forward’s firm desire to join the La Liga side.

Their title says the Manchester United owned player ‘still wants to come’ to Barcelona.

Within the report, it’s explained the 27-year-old is one of the players who wants to join the Catalan club ‘no matter what’.

The newspaper points out Hansi Flick’s side negotiated a loan deal in January. They didn’t go ahead with the operation as the priority was to secure extensions of some of their current players.

Rashford ended up at Aston Villa, where he scored three goals and registered six assists from 16 games so far.

The Birmingham club were knocked out of the Champions League by Paris Saint-Germain. Sport points out the England international’s performances against PSG proved that he’s of Barca’s level.

At this moment in time, the La Liga side haven’t made a final decision. They are looking for a left winger who can also operate across other attacking positions and Rashford fits the bill.

The Manchester United man could be an attractive option for Barcelona if were to reduce his salary. In other words, he has to compromise and take a pay cut to secure a move to the Camp Nou.

Rashford has no future at Manchester United and Sport add Aston Villa want to buy him for £40m.

It feels like an intermediary, on behalf of Rashford, is trying to place him at Barcelona or another top club, if Aston Villa were to not retain him.
