If Manchester United have seriously considered Julian Nagelsmann as a candidate to replace Michael Carrick in recent weeks, then they may need to move quickly to get him.
Nagelsmann is currently a free agent, but the wolves are circling for the former Germany boss. And not just in his homeland either.
With the pressure growing on Michael Carrick following a miserable start to the season, various names have already been linked with the position. Nagelsmann is one of them.
He remains out of work after leaving Germany in the summer but is still highly respected after his previous work in club management.
Reports in England have even suggested that Christoper Vivell – Manchester United’s director of recruitment – has been pushing for the appointment. He has previously worked with Nagelsmann in Germany.
For now, it appears that they are sticking with Carrick, but that could prove problematic down the line.
Leipzig waiting
BILD report that RB Leipzig have Nagelsmann firmly in their sights should they decide to sack coach Martin Demichelis.
He is under increasing pressure, with Leipzig still seeking stability – and a first away win of the season. If those cannot be found, Demichelis will find himself under intense scrutiny.
Nagelsmann continues to loom over the club. BILD’s information is that the former Leipzig boss is the only name that they would consider should they part ways with Demichelis.
They’re aware of the interest from England, namely Manchester United and Tottenham, and would want to beat them to the punch.
Fenerbache hunting
They’re not the only side interested either. Fenerbahce are also eyeing up a move for the German coach.
They recently sacked Ismail Kartal and President Aziz Yildirim is focusing on a foreign replacement, report Hurriyet.
He already has two candidates in mind for the position, Vincenzo Montella and Julian Nagelsmann. He likes both because they’re currently out of work.
His first choice is to appoint a foreign coach, and contacts will now be made with those available to see if they’d be interested. So far there has been no indication of whether they would.
But it’s another option for Nagelsmann and even more potential competition for Manchester United. The question is whether they are ready to move. Or are they are really sticking by Carrick as they say they are.
