Manchester United ‘should be interested’ in a deal for Bayern Munich goalkeeper Yann Sommer this summer as Erik ten Hag looks for new goalkeepers.
That’s according to former Switzerland goalkeeper Jörg Stiel, who has advised the Switzerland goalkeeper to make a move away from the Allianz Arena.
Sommer only joined Bayern in the January transfer window as they sought out a replacement for Manuel Neuer, who had broken his leg in an accident during his holidays after the World Cup.
The 34-year-old’s deal with the Bavarian giants runs until 2025 but numerous reports have made it clear that he could be set to move on as he would prefer to be a number one somewhere else rather than play behind Neuer when he returns.
Manchester United are long-term admirers of the player and were extensively linked with a move for him before he ended up at Bayern in January.
Stiel believes that interest should still be there, particularly as David de Gea has come to the end of his contract at Old Trafford.
“I would advise him to switch,” he told SportBILD.
“If he doesn’t have a regular place in the club, Kobel will be number one at the European Championship. Yann can look around very relaxed.
“Manchester United should be interested, coach Erik ten Hag likes goalkeepers who can play football. As a club, United would be a great option.
“However, I see Yann more in Spain or France, where he can use his playing skills better than in England. For me, the Premier League doesn’t suit him.”
