Manchester United are keen on signing Club Brugge’s Joaquin Seys this summer to give Michael Carrick more options in defence.
The Premier League side are in the market for a new left-back and Lewis Hall is their main target. The Red Devils haven’t convinced Newcastle United yet, forcing them to look at other options.
At the weekend, Sport Witness covered claims from the Dutch press that Manchester United haven’t yet contacted the Jupiler Pro League side for Seys.
Club Brugge are keen on retaining him while their manager, Ivan Leko, gives the English club hope.
He said: “If there’s a lot of money on the table, it’s obviously not easy to say no. The board’s aim is still to build a team that’s even better than last season. The right time to leave will come. Tzolis has proved that. Let’s hope they’re all still here in September.”
Manchester United want Seys
Het Laatste Nieuws state Michael Carrick’s side are ‘showing concrete interest’ in the 21-year-old.
Although the Old Trafford are very keen, they haven’t submitted an offer yet. Manchester United are facing resistance because Club Brugge have no plans to sell him this summer.
Earlier in this window, the Belgian club sold Christos Tzolis to Arsenal for a league-record fee of €40m.
In September, Joaquin Seys signed a new contract until 2029, and Transfermarkt value him at €20m. HLN states Club Brugge won’t let him leave even if the Premier League side offer over €40m.
This could also be a tactic from the Belgian club to collect way more than €40m for the defender.
Player opens door for transfer
At the weekend, the Belgium international started in Club Brugge’s 3-0 league win over OH Leuven.
After the tie, Joaquin Seys spoke to DAZN in Belgium and Voetbal Nieuws have relayed his comments about opening the door for a future transfer.
“I feel good here, I am happy here. It is mutual trust,” he said.
“We will see what happens this winter or next year. Every year I listen, look at the options, and then I decide.”
The fullback’s latest comments and Ivan Leko admitting Club Brugge can’t say no to a tempting offer should encourage Manchester United. If there’s a deal, it’s likely to cost the Red Devils over €40m.
Seys graduated from Club Brugge’s academy and has played 98 matches for the first team, of which 37 are as a right-back.
