Chelsea, Manchester United and Crystal Palace are all showing interest in Benfica’s Tomás Araújo.
Crystal Palace tried to sign the defender by tabling a €30m bid in the summer but it was rejected. On November 13th, Correio da Manhã said Oliver Glasner’s side are still chasing him.
Tuesday’s edition of A Bola points out Benfica’s refusal to accept Crystal Palace’s offer and also mentions Chelsea and Manchester United interest.
It’s claimed the Blues and the Red Devils are ‘considering a move’ for the centre-back, but it’ll be difficult because Benfica are negotiating to extend his contract beyond 2028.
His current deal has a €80m release clause and the Portuguese club want to improve his salary and clause to €100m. They have no plans to sell the player in January unless a club were to activate his clause.
O Jogo state Benfica are set to extend the player’s deal until 2029 and increase his clause from €80m to €100m.
They point out Crystal Palace’s failed efforts to sign the 22-year-old in the last window. With the new clause and interest from other clubs, Glasner’s side seem to be out of the race.
The newspaper adds Chelsea have asked about Araújo and are attentive to his situation, while Manchester United have included him in their target list. It’ll be complicated for the interested parties to sign him, at least in the winter market.
