Manchester City have officially made their move for Palmeiras defender Vitor Reis, with discussions on going about the potential transfer.
That’s according to GE Globo, who report that Manchester City have made a proposal for the young defender, who ‘welcomes the deal’.
They explain that Manchester City have now sent a proposal to Palmeiras to buy Reis having already advanced negotiations with the player’s entourage.
They are trying to convince the Brazilian club to do the deal now, in the January transfer window. This is proving tricky as Palmeiras have maintained from day one that they would like to keep Reis until the summer so he can play in the new, expanded Club World Cup.
The values of the proposal sent by Manchester City have not been revealed but the fixed part of it does not reach €40m. That had been an expectation for Palmeiras’ board.
They don’t consider the numbers offered to be bad by any means, but it means more discussions are needed with Manchester City.
City have already made contact with the defender’s entourage and reached an agreement with them. This part of the process is ‘well advanced’. In fact, they are so advanced Manchester City have moved on to getting an agreement with Palmeiras sorted.
