It doesn’t take the Spanish press much to jump on something and get a bit excited, and Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk has proven that again.
That’s at least if Mundo Deportivo’s latest is anything to go by, with them getting very excited about some comments he made following the win over Real Madrid.
The newspaper explains that the Liverpool captain was asked about the possibility of joining Real Madrid given the current problems they have in their defence.
“Is Madrid looking for centre-backs, seriously? If Rüdiger is there …” he responded to El Chiringuito when pressed in the matter following the 2-0 win at Anfield.
“I am totally concentrated on the duel against Manchester City next weekend, nothing more.”
That brief interaction, though, has gotten everyone excited, with Mundo going as far as to say that Van Dijk ‘has doubts’ about his future at Liverpool.
That comes on the back of the fact his current contract expires in 2025, and he has ‘not yet indicated’ that he will renew his deal at Anfield.
Thus, he could be an option for Real Madrid to sign on the cheap and solve their defensive crisis, hence El Chiringuito jumping on him and taking their opportunity to ask the question.
That’s led to a lot of excitement in Spain, where we’re sure they’ll now be jumping all over the quotes, suggesting a transfer is on the cards and everything else in the coming weeks, all off the back of these comments.
