Liverpool have Borussia Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha on their target list as part of the plan to further improve Andoni Iraola’s squad next year.

The midfielder graduated from Manchester City’s academy and left them after making only three appearances. The Citizens sold him to Wolfsburg in 2021, and he left them for BVB in 2023.

Nmecha has developed into a star at the Signal Iduna Park and Liverpool are considering signing him.

Operating as a central and defensive midfielder, he’s managed 15 goals and eight assists from 123 matches. This season, he made 11 appearances and scored a brace in his side’s 3-0 win over SC Paderborn in September.

Liverpool latest PL side to show interest

In July, we relayed news of Manchester United and Newcastle United’s interest in the 26-year-old.

A month later, Sport Witness covered a report from Germany explaining that the Magpies intend to make an offer. Borussia Dortmund, who were reluctant, had set a €100-120m price, but a move didn’t go through.

Felix Nmecha is still at the Bundesliga side, where he has become an ‘indispensable’ star. Liverpool are the latest English club to show interest.

The Reds have taken action, and Sky Deutschland states they recently contacted his agent. For now, there are no signs of the Anfield club launching a concrete attempt either in January or next summer.

Not top target for Liverpool

Although the Premier League side made an approach, the Germany international isn’t their main target. Liverpool have AS Monaco’s Lamine Camara and AFC Bournemouth’s Alex Scott as top candidates ahead of Felix Nmecha.

Therefore, the Reds aren’t planning on making a strong push to sign the ex-Manchester City man. This is the reason there are no immediate concerns at Borussia Dortmund over losing their star to Andoni Iraola’s side.

If the Merseyside club decide to bet on Nmecha, they would need a hefty fee to convince BVB.

In March, he signed an extension until 2030, and Transfermarkt value him at €65m. The German club will most likely demand a fee higher than that to consider selling their prized asset.

Camara and Scott are 22 and 23 years of age respectively while Nmecha turned 26 earlier this month. The Cherries star is likely to cost a lot but has the Premier League experience, giving him an edge over the two other targets.
