For the past few days, there’s been claims from the UK that Liverpool have identified Bayern Munich star Leroy Sané as their target to replace Mohamed Salah if the Egyptian were to leave the Premier League side.
Sport1 have backed that up and they share their own take on the Reds’ interest in the 27-year-old.
It’s claimed Liverpool have their eyes set on the winger who has ‘seriously impressed’ Jürgen Klopp. The coach has included Sané’s name in the list should Salah decide to leave Anfield.
The report states the Merseyside club’s leaders believe Salah will no longer be with them beyond this season and this is why they have identified the Germany international as the candidate to replace him.
However, Sport1 make it clear the Sané case is ‘not yet hot’ at Liverpool as they also have other names on their list.
The former Manchester City man feels comfortable in Munich, both on and off the pitch, and has a contract until 2025. The outlet states the Bundesliga winners want to quickly renew his deal in order to ‘thwart’ interested parties like Liverpool.
Thomas Tuchel shares a good relationship with Sané and could play a role in his long-term future at Bayern.
Meanwhile, Bild state the attacker ‘wants to make a fundamental decision’ over his future during the course of this season but it’s not yet made clear what that decision will be.
Sané’s exit would be a ‘heavy blow’ for Bayern as they are keen to retain him, and as things stand, Bild state they haven’t held talks the player’s camp to extend his contract.
It’s worth nothing the player is currently going through perhaps his best period since he move to Bayern Munich. Therefore, it can’t be ruled out that agents would use supposed interest from other clubs to pressure for a new deal at a time when their strength is at its height.
