Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté has entered his final year of contract and aims to join Real Madrid, who have been planning to sign him on a free transfer in 2026.

The latest claims from Spain have stated the La Liga club could consider signing the 26-year-old this summer.

On Friday, AS stated Liverpool are working to sell the centre-back after his refusal to sign an extension. They also reported the Reds are asking €50m, while Los Blancos won’t pay more than €20-25m.

Journalist Antón Meana spoke on Cadena Ser about the defender’s desire to join Real Madrid and Bernabéu Digital have relayed his comments.

“The Anfield team won’t rule out putting Konaté on the market this summer for around €50m if they see he doesn’t renew. If that happens, the player will ask to negotiate with Real Madrid,” he said.

Essentially, Meana backs up the AS report from Friday, and adds the former RB Leipzig man will asks the Reds to negotiate with Real Madrid. Saturday’s edition of Marca contradicts these two claims.

The newspaper’s summary states Real Madrid have marked Konaté’s name in red, but ‘Liverpool refuse to negotiate’.

New centre-back signing Dean Huijsen impressed at the Club World Cup, but there are doubts about other defenders. Real Madrid could look for a new centre-back this summer and the France international can be an option as they have been monitoring him for long.

Marca then state the Premier League winners ‘aren’t willing to let him leave on a free transfer, or even close to it, as happened with Trent Alexander-Arnold’.

Their summary says Liverpool are refusing to negotiate and within the report, it’s stated they don’t want to lose Konaté for free. That’s It’s only possible if he signs an extension or is sold this summer or next January.

In short, the Frenchman’s future remains uncertain and it’s unclear whether Liverpool will let him leave in this window.
