Liverpool’s interest in Teun Koopmeiners could become a problem in the way of Juventus signing the Atalanta star in the summer, according to Thursday’s Corriere dello Sport.
The Serie A side are expected to appoint Napoli chief Cristiano Giuntoli as their new sporting director. He’ll have several objectives for the next window, including bolstering the Turin club’s midfield.
Koopmeiners has been followed by Giuntoli in recent years and is seen as the right profile for the Old Lady. He’s also been on Juve’s agenda for some time.
The ‘biggest obstacle’ for Massimiliano Allegri’s side to secure the 25-year-old’s services would be his asking price, especially if the Premier League interest materialises into an offer. Only Liverpool are mentioned as a suitor from England.
It’s claimed the Reds have ‘already taken the first steps’ to acquire the Netherlands international’s signature.
His contract lasts until 2025 and Atalanta have an option to extend it by 12 months.
Corriere state the Dutchman’s valuation is ‘well over €35-40m’ and this is deemed to be too much for Juve. There’s nothing to indicate if Liverpool are willing to meet Atalanta’s request for Koopmeiners.
If Jürgen Klopp’s side are keen to seal the deal for Koopmeiners, they would be in a position to beat Juve because of their better economic resources.
