Manchester United are ‘thinking about’ a move for Barcelona star Ansu Fati but the Catalans are likely to resist any approaches.
That’s according to Sport, who carry comments from Barcelona manager Xavi on the player and explain how he sees him as one of his current squad’s ‘great footballing assets’.
We covered a surprise report yesterday that Manchester United were interested in Fati as they plan ahead of the summer, when they are expected to keep reshaping Erik ten Hag’s squad.
That made it clear they would move if the opportunity arises in the coming months, something which could potentially be the case.
Sport pick up on it today and say the Red Devils are ‘thinking about’ Fati but Xavi considers him a key part of his squad for now and in future.
Indeed, he sent a ‘message’ to Manchester United with his recent comments, stating “no, no, no… Things will work out for him” when asked about the possibility of a departure.
“We have to be patient. Ansu is a spectacular asset to the club. We have a lot of confidence in him, he is working very well.
“I’m very happy with his tremendous mentality in training, but patience. He is 20 years old and needs time, like everyone else. Things will work out for him, this is not the time to talk about sales.”
That, then, would seemingly rule out a move to Manchester United, although Sport are insisting that it is a thing.
It was them who published the news first yesterday and they then reproduced that, word for word, on the front page of their newspaper today and in three other pages as well.
Now there is this to follow it up further, which is strange to say the least. They clearly think there’s something there and are pushing it.
As usual we’ll take it with a pinch of salt, particularly with Xavi being so insistent and ‘emphatically’ making his point according to the newspaper, but expect more Manchester United links from Sport in the coming months.
