Tarik Muharemovic joined Leeds United from Sassuolo in the summer and the player is determined to prove himself.
The defender was one of the standout performances in the 2025/26 Serie A campaign. He helped Sassuolo to a solid mid-table finish and this grew his reputation just before the World Cup in the summer.
This led to several English clubs being keen on a deal and Leeds United moved at the right time. They shelled out €40m to sign him in what was a massive capital gain for the Neroverdi.
Now, the player has spoken about the transfer and his career so far.
Muharemovic wants to make a mark
The 23-year-old spoke to Gianluca Di Marzio and discussed a host of topics. He appeared grateful for having had a foundational spell in the Italian game.
“I spent five years in Italy, so we all know it’s a country that specialises in tactics and defence. Tactically, it’s the best place to grow. Defensively, I learned so much during my time at Juve and Sassuolo. I was lucky enough to meet players who helped me a lot: Bonucci and Chiellini above all.”
He also revealed that he always wanted to be the best at Sassuolo. Some players helped him in the journey.
“I had Matic and Jay Idzes. I was lucky to be surrounded by so many players and coaches who helped me! But, of course, there were also coaches who didn’t help me and didn’t want the best for me. At the end of the day, though, I wanted to prove that I’m one of the best defenders and show my best side. I simply thank everyone in Italy who helped me.”
Muharemovic is very happy at Elland Road and wants to prove his level. Juventus deciding to sell him as a youngster appears to have added motivation.
“This wasn’t in my hands; they had better ideas and knew why. Now I’m really happy to be here, at Leeds, and in the Premier League, and not somewhere else.”
“My focus is here and I just want to forget those early years. I thank Sassuolo and I’m truly grateful for what they’ve done for me. I’m at Leeds United to prove who I am. And thanks also to Giorgio, Nemanja, and Leo.”
Player has taken the right step
Leeds United have started the season fairly well and this is positiv e for Muharemovic. He finds himself in a similar situation as how things were at Sassuolo, who were mid-table and even challenging for Europe at one point.
Muharemovic is expected to start regularly and he isn’t new to being the cent of the backline.
