Manchester United have enough serious matters to worry about, but Bruno Fernandes has apparently created another problem. He walked out of a football stadium.
As you probably have seen by now, the midfielder left Craven Cottage on foot last weekend and was approached by supporters outside.
Some saw it as a nice bit of simplicity from the Portugal international. Others, back in his home country, were considerably less impressed.
Thankfully, Portuguese television has now tackled this extremely serious matter.
‘I honestly don’t find it very amusing’
The footage was discussed on a celebrity gossip show on Thursday, with presenter Adriano Martins describing it as a gesture of “great simplicity”. But his colleague António Leal wasn’t having any of that.
“I don’t see it as simplicity at all. I honestly don’t find these kinds of attitudes very amusing,” he said, as relayed by Hiper FM.
“Because I don’t think they make much sense, and you can see that they don’t make sense because, despite leaving alone, on foot, he had to be accompanied by security and police, because it’s impossible for people with this level of fame to go unnoticed.”
So far, the evidence against Fernandes appears to be that he’s famous and people recognised him.
Leal continued: “To go through all this folklore, for me this is folklore, it doesn’t add anything.”
“And maybe he did it with the best of intentions or just because, I’m not judging him, but it does look a bit like folklore.”

Fear of a new trend
There was also the small matter of security and police accompanying him. That seems fairly sensible when a United player decides to walk through a crowd of supporters.
For Leal, though, that actually appeared to strengthen the case against the whole thing. So he added:
“Next week someone will leave with a little dog, then the week after someone else will leave with… I don’t know what. I think it’s unnecessary.”
