A few days ago, Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet reported Robin Olsen has agreed a deal to join Malmö FF this summer. The goalkeeper is from Malmö and played for his local club earlier in his career, so it’s very much being seen as a homecoming for the 35-year-old.

Olsen has been at Aston Villa since 2022, initially arriving at the Birmingham club on loan from AS Roma. That loan was made permanent and Olsen signed a contract which expires this summer.

Olsen would be able to be first choice on a return to Sweden, having spent his time at Aston Villa as back up to Emi Martinez.

Ahead of the potential transfer, Fotbollskanalen spoke to Malmö director Daniel Andersson and tried to get some kind of confirmation that the Aston Villa player will be arriving in the summer.

Andersson simply wasn’t ready to provide, and is quoted as saying: “I have nothing to say about that.”

Still, it’s not causing much concern around Malmö, where the deal is considered done.
