After Wolverhampton Wanderers failed to sign Yuri Alberto from Corinthians, they may have dodged a bullet.
As reported by the Brazilian media today, Wolves tried to get the striker on loan with an option to buy, and that was turned down by his club.
The attempt created big noise among Corinthians fans who wanted Yuri Alberto gone, as he’s been going through poor form. Band pundit Neto is one of them, and he came up with quite strong quotes about the situation.
The former Corinthians and Brazil player, who now hosts the Donos da Bola show, claimed he’d have taken the striker to the airport if needed.
“My brother, I’ll tell you something. Look, if you need me, I’ll leave here, go to the Neo Quimica Arena. I’ll pick him up in my car, handcuff him to my hand, then I’ll ask the guys from the federal police who are my partners: ‘Can I go in and take him to his seat?’,” said Neto.
“The moment we arrive and they say:’seatbelts on…’, the moment they say it… I take it off and run. And I get out and leave him. But here’s the thing: I handcuff him to the seat so he can’t get out. And I take the key, brother.”
Corinthians’ board didn’t have the same opinion, though, and the reason is that there was no guarantee Wolves would buy Yuri Alberto.
Globo Esporte now feature a story with a few more details, explaining that the Brazilian club said they’d only negotiate the player for a permanent transfer.
It’s said there’s no chance of a late turnaround in the negotiations, though, as there’s little time for everything to be sorted out.
Yuri Alberto has been struggling a lot recently. He scored 15 goals in 63 games last season, and still hasn’t scored this year after four games. That’s why Corinthians fans were rooting for a sale, and Wolves showed up as a big solution.
