Earlier today, we covered some quotes from former Leeds United player Rodrigo, who spoke to A Bola about his decision to leave the Whites.
The forward was sold by the Elland Road side in a €3.5m move to Al-Rayyan last summer, and described the transfer as a ‘very personal matter’.
It turns out that A Bola’s printed edition has more quotes from this interview, where Rodrigo actually shares his feelings for Leeds United.
Asked whether he had a good time while playing for the English club, the 32-year-old said that he’s thankful for the Whites for giving him the chance to play in the Premier League.
“Yes, those three seasons were very positive for me, I really enjoyed the experience of playing in the Premier League, unfortunately last year we didn’t manage to stay in the Premier League, but it was a very valuable personal and professional experience,” said Rodrigo.
“I made some great friends and was able to play in what is now, in my opinion at least, the strongest and most powerful league in the world. I can only thank Leeds for the opportunity they gave me to take part, and even more so for being part of a historic team in English football. It’s certainly a stage in my life and career that I’ll always treasure.”
Rodrigo was also asked about Marcelo Bielsa, and said the manager meant a lot to his career.
“He’s undoubtedly a very special coach in the way he works and also in the way he is, but as with all coaches, I’ve tried to learn as much as possible and logically evolve according to what each coach demands of his teams.”
Rodrigo was signed by Leeds in a €30m move from Valencia in 2020.
In his three seasons at Elland Road, he scored 28 goals and contributed five assists in 97 appearances, and ended up leaving the club right after they were relegated to the Championship last year.
He has five goals and four assists in 10 games for Al-Rayyan so far.
