Following Wolverhampton Wanderers reportedly agreeing a package for Jhon Arias, sources in Brazil (newspaper Globo Esporte and journalist Victor Lessa) have shared a detailed financial breakdown of the agreement.
According to the reports, the deal was closed at €22m (£18.5m) for 90% of the player’s economic rights. The remaining 10% will remain with Fluminense, who retain a minority stake in the Colombian winger.
This is reported slightly differently in Brazil, and in practice it just means Fluminense will get 10% from a future Wolves sale.
From that €22m total, €16m (£13.4m) will go directly to the Brazilian club. That amount is split into €11m (£9.2m) in fixed fees and €5m (£4.2m) in performance-related bonuses. The add-ons include targets such as appearances, goals, and national team call-ups, among other things.
The remaining €6m (£5m) will be paid to Patriotas, Arias’ former club in Colombia, which held part of his economic rights. The Colombian side are not entitled to any of the potential bonuses.
Fluminense have also secured a buy-back priority clause. If Arias ever returns to Brazilian football, the Rio de Janeiro club will have the right of first refusal to bring him back from Wolves.
Although the final figures confirm a significant sale, local coverage notes that the guaranteed income for Fluminense (€11m, or £9.2m) is lower than initially reported. Bonuses may increase that total, but only if contractual conditions are met.
The deal has drawn criticism among Fluminense fans, with many on social media expressing frustration over the final terms. One of the most repeated comments has been: “It’s embarrassing to sell your best player for that price.”
As we reported, Arias is expected to land in England on Sunday or Monday.
