Chelsea star João Pedro is on Barcelona’s shortlist for the summer.

The Premier League side signed the striker from Brighton & Hove Albion for around £55m [€63.7m] plus bonuses in June 2025.

He has excelled in his debut season at Chelsea, scoring 20 goals and contributing nine assists from 47 matches.

The La Liga winners now have the 24-year-old as an option to improve their attack next season.

Last month, former Barcelona scout Bojan Krkić Sr. recommended the La Liga winners sign the Brazil international.

Chelsea player Plan B for Barcelona

João Pedro is on the front page of today’s Sport, as an option for the attack. The title states the Chelsea player is the ‘great alternative’.

The Catalan club want to sign a striker who won’t create conflict with Lamine Yamal.

Atlético Madrid’s Julián Alvarez is their priority target, while their sporting director, Deco, has identified the former Watford man as another main alternative. The two meet ‘all the requirements’ of manager Hansi Flick.

Deco has long been an admirer of the Blues attacker and has watched him several times during his trips to England.

Sport state: ‘He [Deco] believes he [Pedro] has the profile of a Barcelona player and possesses the necessary qualities to thrive at the Camp Nou, on a sporting and marketing level that Chelsea cannot offer him.’

The director has held talks with Pedro’s agent and during several meetings days, Barca have conveyed their interest.

The player remains focused on winning the FA Cup final against Manchester City on May 16th and then the World Cup with Brazil.

Pedro is far from reaching his full potential but that isn’t the case with Alvarez. However, the Chelsea player would cost around €80-100m while Barcelona need closer to €150m to take the Argentine away from Atlético.

A potential move for either won’t take place before the World Cup. All parties involved, including Chelsea and Atlético, are well aware of this.

Our take: Pedro could push for move

João Pedro contract expires in 2033, and Transfermarkt value him at €75m.

The Blues will fail to qualify for the Champions League and are ninth in the table. Chelsea have three matches to secure a place in one of the other two European competitions.

If Barcelona decide to fully focus on the Brazilian and make a concrete effort, then the player could push for a transfer, especially with a lack of Champions League football.
