Glenn Hysén has expressed his frustration after Liverpool‘s Alexander Isak suffered an injury with Sweden, forcing him to withdraw from the national team for the ongoing international break.
The Premier League side have confirmed the striker has suffered a minor injury. He has struggled with injuries since arriving at Anfield from Newcastle United for €145m last summer.
He finished his first season at Liverpool with four goals and an assist from 1,032 minutes from 22 matches. Four different injuries meant he spent 141 days away on the sidelines.
The 27-year-old has featured in every fixture for the Reds this season, scoring four goals and contributing an assist. He extended his good run by scoring in Sweden’s 2-1 win over Romania last week.
However, a fresh setback has forced him to withdraw from Graham Potter’s squad.
Liverpool player urged not to rush
Glenn Hysén spent three years between 1989 and 1992 at Anfield and won the title in his first season with the Merseyside club.
The former defender also played nine years for Sweden between 1981 and 1990. He has been speaking about Alexander Isak’s latest injury to Sportbibeln in Sweden.
Hysén urged the Liverpool frontman to fully recover from the setback to avoid aggravating the injury.
“Yes, it’s a shame now that he’s starting to get going. Because now he was really on the move and scored goals last time and is starting to get going at Liverpool. It feels like he’s on the right track again,” he said.
“But unfortunately, someone got injured here then. Then he’ll have to rest for a while. It’s better that he comes back healthy and well, so that he doesn’t take a chance and it gets worse.”

Wants to replicate Newcastle form for Liverpool
Alexander Isak spent three years at Newcastle United, managing 62 goals and 11 assists from 109 matches.
He pushed hard to leave the Magpies for Liverpool, and this didn’t please the former’s supporters, with some calling him a rat. The striker has responded to them last week.
Glenn Hysén is hoping for the player to stay fit so that he can at least try to replicate his Newcastle United form for Andoni Iraola’s side.
“I just feel sorry for him now that he’s getting going again. It gives so much for Liverpool too, if he’s in shape,” Hysén explained.
“As he was in Newcastle, now it’s not the same type of game at Liverpool, but if he can get up to half of what he did in Newcastle, it’s great for Liverpool.”
After the international break, the Reds will host Manchester City on October 11th. Iraola and Isak will hope for him to be fit for this clash.
