Jamie Gittens to Chelsea burned like a bright star and then started to fade away a little. Part of that will almost certainly be down to Borussia Dortmund asking way too much money for the 20-year-old.

Gittens had a very difficult second half of the season and it simply doesn’t justify the figures that were initially being spoken of in Germany. Indeed, earlier this week his BVB colleague Julian Brandt publicly shared his sympathy with Gittens over fans being negative towards him as the season came to an end.

Regardless, this week’s edition of Sport Bild reports Dortmund are expected to lose Gittens to Chelsea. Their report states Gittens had already been on the verge of sealing a move to Stamford Bridge, but Dortmund then rejected a €55m offer for Chelsea.

Talks are expected to get going again after the end of the Club World Cup, which both clubs are competing in. Gittens came on in the 77th minutes for Borussia Dortmund as they drew 0-0 with Fluminense on Tuesday.

That €55m looks enough, and Chelsea won’t want to be pushed too high.
