Big clubs are willing to pay upwards of €60m for Tottenham midfielder Lucas Bergvall, but Spurs are not interested in any deal.
That’s according to Fotboll Direkt, who say interest is growing in the 19-year-old after his debut season at Tottenham.
They state that Bergvall’s reputation is rising after he shone under Ange Postecoglou this season. Tottenham have put a €60m minimum figure on his head, but according to FD’s information, big clubs do not see that sum as a problem.
They don’t name any clubs in particular but do point out that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has publicly praised the Tottenham midfielder in recent months.
Tottenham are secure as they’ve not only put a €60m valuation on the midfielder but also tied him to a new deal worth €5m a year. That puts him among Tottenham’s biggest earners, say FD.
That deal extends until 2031, so there is no pressure on them. The contract was only signed recently, so it is surprising for talk of big clubs not being put off by his asking price now coming out., especially coming from the Swedish media.
With the story coming from Sweden and pushed as an exclusive then it doesn’t take great detective work to assume the source. It would be surprising if a new deal is being pushed for already, especially when the last one saw him more than double his wages.
FD do say that it is unlikely that Bergvall will leave Tottenham this summer. Neither the club nor the midfielder himself are the least bit interested in listening to the lures from bigger clubs.
They, though, do want everyone to know that big clubs are interested and not put off by the asking price at all, which seems like a mild warning to Tottenham about their young star.
