Aston Villa’s Enzo Barrenechea has been close to the club’s exit door despite arriving just weeks ago from Juventus.
Lazio seemed to be a potential candidate to sign him and soon after, Valencia emerged as an option until that idea also faded away.
It was suggested on Wednesday that an injury situation at Villa, to another player, was the reason the move to the Spanish club didn’t work out.
Valencia sporting director Miguel Angel Corona spoke to DAZN ahead of the club’s La Liga game against Athletic Club Bilbao yesterday and was asked about their move for the Argentine midfielder.
Corona suggested that ‘another club’ was the reason behind the fact that Aston Villa didn’t sell the player to them.
The club sporting director stated, as relayed by Plaza Deportiva, that he didn’t want to reveal more details ‘because they are arguments from another club’.
Corona suggested that the move was ‘not going well’, with the report stating that transfer for the player has most definitely fallen through.
Barrenechea’s future is still up in the air and he has found no space in the Aston Villa first-team, so it remains to be seen who that other club is.
