Lugano sporting director Carlos Da Silva has indicated they included specific Brighton related clauses into the deal to sell Mohamed Amoura to Union Saint-Gilloise.
The director has been speaking to Corriere del Ticino about his time at the club and various other business, which naturally meant a discussion on Amoura too.
He left the Swiss side in a €4m deal to join Union SG in August and hasn’t looked back since bagging 16 goals and two assists in 23 games in all competition to date.
That includes a goal and an assist in the 2-1 win over Liverpool in the Europa League last week, a performance that put him in the spotlight to say the least.
With their former star shining on the European stage, that’s naturally led to questions about whether Lugano sold too cheaply, with the numbers he is currently posting undoubtedly worthy of a higher transfer fee.
Da Silva, though, appears to have thought ahead and wants to assure his own fans they won’t be left reeling if any move does come to fruition.
“Behind every player and every transfer there is a story of its own,” he said.
“If we look at Amoura’s path in Belgium and Europe and compare it for example to that of Victor Boniface, who moved from Union Saint-Gilloise to Bayer Leverkusen, well, we could estimate a value between CHF10-15m.
“But if he continues in this way, he could reach Amdouni’s levels (he moved from Basel to Burnley. What if we collected too little? By showing him in European competitions we could certainly have increased his value.
“But let’s be calm: in the agreement signed with Union Saint-Gilloise there are interesting percentages in the event of resale to other clubs or – with even more important implications – to Brighton.”
