Crystal Palace ‘want to cash in immediately’ on Jean-Philippe Mateta and won’t sanction any sort of loan deal for him.
That’s according to Sport Mediaset. They report that this stance has made life difficult for Juventus at this moment in time.
The newspaper reports that Juventus’ negotiations for Mateta seemed to be a matter of final details. But, actually, the agreement with Crystal Palace has become increasingly complicated.
They ‘want to cash in immediately’ on Mateta this month. That’s a problem for Juventus, who are pushing for a payment conditional on qualification for Europe. That gap is a difficult one for the Italian side to bridge. They’re reluctant to pay Crystal Palace’s €40m asking price.
Calciomercato say something similar. They also report that the Mateta situation is starting to get complicated for Juventus. According to them, it’s not a question of agreements with the player or commissions with agents. That side of things was sorted days ago.
Rather, it is Crystal Palace’s ‘resistance to discounts’ on Mateta’s value, which is €40m, and the terms. Crystal Palace want to sell him outright and won’t sanction a loan. Juventus won’t be moving forwards under these conditions.
Crystal Palace transfer slipping away
That is why attention has now turned to Youssef En-Nesyri. Fenerbahce have made him available on loan, so that deal suits Juventus better.
Whether Crystal Palace are forced to change tact now that Mateta has made it clear he wants to leave, remains to be seen. They don’t need the money after selling Marc Guehi but may be reluctant to let the opportunity to sell Mateta for a top price now.
Turkish clubs are also showing interest in the Crystal Palace player. However, their efforts are expected to fail on both a player and club level. Mateta wants a top league to help his World Cup chances, and Turkish clubs usually prefer loan moves.
