FC Köln have agreed a deal with Crystal Palace defender Borna Sosa for the defender to return to the Bundesliga on deadline day.

Sky Sport Germany report that Sosa has ‘verbally agreed’ to a loan move to the Bundesliga club. Now the final details are being worked on with Crystal Palace.

The outlet state that there is no complete agreement between Crystal Palace and FC Köln at this moment in time. However, they do say that ‘it looks good’ at this moment in time. They then added that the deal will presumably not include a purchase option.

The full-back had previously been a target for VfB Stuttgart. Now he is potentially heading to a different Bundesliga club on deadline day.

Out of favour

Borna Sosa appears out of favour at Selhurst Park under Pierre Sage at this moment in time. He is yet to make an appearance this season, with Tyrick Mitchell the first choice under the French boss.

It was a similar situation under Oliver Glasner. The Croatian managed just 842 minutes across all competitions for Crystal Palace last season as well after arriving in a €2.3m move from Ajax.

Now It appears he could be set for a return to Germany. He previously spent five years with Stuttgart, making 115 appearances in all competitions, scoring five goals and registering 35 assists.

Crystal Palace agreement required

He has not come close to replicating those numbers at any club since. Now Cologne are offering him a return to a country, and league, where he enjoyed the best moments of life.

The question is whether they can strike an agreement with Crystal Palace. While that is not in place yet, there is seemingly every confidence that one can be found sooner rather than later.

With Sosa’s agreement already in place, that’s at least one major hurdle that has been cleared.
