Fenerbahçe’s Çağlar Söyüncü is an option to strengthen West Ham United‘s defence on deadline day.
That’s according to Fussball Transfer journalist Dominik Schneider. He took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share a short update about the Championship side.
West Ham make approach
Dominik Schneider reports the 30-year-old ‘is in talks’ with the London club to secure a late move.
The Turkey international has less than a year left on his contract but wants to leave the Istanbul club.
West Ham United can offer him an escape route in the next few hours. Schneider adds he’s unsure of the outcome of the talks between the two parties. It’s worth noting the Turkish media haven’t backed up or rejected this report so far.
Reasonable fee for West Ham
The journalist also doesn’t mention Fenerbahçe’s stance on letting Çağlar Söyüncü leave.
Transfermarkt value him at €3.5m. Nuno Espírito Santo’s side or another club can take advantage of the contract situation and his desire to leave to snatch him from the Süper Lig side for a reasonable fee.
The defender spent five-year at Leicester City between 2018 and 2023 and played 132 matches [98 were in the Premier League] for the Foxes.
He left them as a free agent for Atlético Madrid before moving to the Turkish club on loan in January 2024. Fenerbahçe made his stay permanent late that year and Söyüncü played 75 matches so far for the Yellow Canaries.
In his final season at the King Power Stadium, the defender played alongside Wout Faes.
Earlier today, Sport Witness covered a report from Belgium explaining that the Hammers have a verbal agreement with Leicester City to sign Faes. The expectation is for the 28-year-old Belgian to undergo a West Ham medical this afternoon and then sign a three-year contract.
With Faes’ move at an advanced stage, the London club are unlikely to sign Söyüncü on deadline day, unless they want to sign two centre-backs or the Belgian’s move doesn’t go through.
Update: West Ham have now pulled away from Wout Faes, and which perhaps means Çağlar Söyüncü is preferred.
