As Tottenham continue to search for a right-back, it’s becoming rather clear that Emerson Royal is only being used because Antonio Conte doesn’t have anyone else.
The 23-year-old has made 12 appearances in the Premier League this season, all at right-midfield as part of the Italian’s three at the back formation, but if he could get someone else in, he would.
That’s why we are seeing a few right-backs being linked with a move to Tottenham, and if one of them were to arrive, the former Barcelona player could be sold.
This is what Tuttosport hint at when looking at who Inter could go after if they managed to sell Denzel Dumfries to the highest bidder.
They explain the Brazilian is an ‘old goal’ of the Serie A side, wanting him before they signed the Dutchman from PSV Eindhoven.
It’s then pointed out that Conte ‘doesn’t seem particularly in love’ with his player, and ‘probably wouldn’t say no to the right offer’ for him.
That’s, of course, if Tottenham can find the right replacement, which will be a priority of Fabio Paratici’s for January if someone becomes available.
If not, it might have to wait until next summer.
