Over the past two days, Atalanta have emerged as suitors to sign Celtic midfielder Arne Engels.
SportItalia reported the Italian side have made attempts to sign the 21-year-old and Gian Piero Gasperini is keen to get him in the summer transfer window.
The situation now seems to be picking up pace and TuttoAtalanta have reported further on La Dea’s interest in the Celtic star. They believe Atalanta have initiated ‘significant contact’ to land the Belgian and have taken important steps for the player.
That contact is said to be both with Engels’ entourage and Celtic, so it would appear things are getting serious.
Celtic are not willing to let Engels easily and are described ‘tough nut to crack’ by the Italian article. However, there is belief the Hoops will sell the midfielder if enough money is offered.
There is interest from Premier League clubs as well and this could lead to Brendan Rodgers’ side increasing their valuation.
Last summer, Atalanta failed in a move for Matt O’Riley and TuttoAtalanta believe Gasperini’s side may face a similar scenario.
