Last week, Calciomercato stated Arsenal have a deal in place with Riccardo Calafiori, and have to find an agreement with Bologna to get the deal over the line.
The Serie A side must pay 50% of the fee from a future sale to Calafiori’s former club, FC Basel.
On Wednesday, Gazzetta dello Sport reported Bologna haven’t accepted the Gunners’ bid so far and they continue to request €50m for the defender. It was also said there’s a stalemate in negotiations between the two clubs.
Thursday’s edition of Corriere di Bologna points out the 22-year-old has an agreement with the north London club.
The deal hasn’t gone through because Mikel Arteta’s side are ‘imposing their own conditions’, while Bologna are not willing to lower the request below €50m. It’s stated this can allow Real Madrid to snatch the Italy international from Arsenal’s clutches.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side showed keen interest in Lille’s Leny Yoro, but he’s heading to Manchester United. This has seen them, according to Corriere di Bologna, put Calafiori on top of their wish list.
It’s claimed the Champions League winners could ‘come forward decisively’ and convince the Bologna star to ‘break the agreement’ he has with Arsenal. The newspaper insists Los Blancos would be able to at least match the Premier League side’s offer.
It’s quite possible Bologna are using the La Liga giants to put pressure on Arteta’s side to make an improved offer.
