On December 6th, Calciomercato explained Arsenal’s Lucas Torreira is a ‘priority’ for Napoli in January because the Gunners midfielder pleases everyone at the Serie A side.
These claims were made when Carlo Ancelotti was in charge at club. Earlier today, the Italian club confirmed the former Chelsea manager has been relieved from his duties after he guided them to the Champions League knockout stages.
According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Gennaro Gattuso is expected to replace Ancelotti at the Stadio San Paolo.
It’s claimed Napoli’s incoming manager wants to strengthen the midfield and he also plans to bring in a ‘regista’. For the midfield, Gattuso’s request to his new club would be to sign AC Milan’s Franck Kessié.
For the deep-lying position, Gattuso’s ‘idea’ would be Torreira and he’s already held talks with Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis regarding the north London club’s player.
TMW’s report suggest Napoli’s plan with the Uruguay international remains intact even after changing managers, but they don’t provide information on whether or not Arsenal would be willing to allow Torreira to leave the Emirates.
