Salernitana chief Morgan de Sanctis is hoping Everton put Neal Maupay up for sale this summer as he again eyes a move for him.
That’s according to Tutto Salernitana, who say he was a target for the Italian side last summer and could be again this year.
They explain that Maupay only ended up at Everton last season after his move to Salernitana fell through but that has not stopped them looking at him.
He’s endured a miserable time on Merseyside side, with just one goal in 24 appearances, and there’s a belief he will be sold on regardless of how they fare in their relegation battle.
Salernitana are hoping that is the case and should Everton decide to sell, De Sanctis ‘could return to the charge’ for the striker. That is also more likely to happen if they sell one of their current forwards or Krzysztof Piatek is not signed on a permanent basis.
They could face competition from inside Italy, though, with Torino another suitor. Nice, where he played at the beginning of his career, are also interested.
However, Salernitana are at the front of the queue and have been for some time. Indeed, we covered a report back in March that stated they were keen and even hypothesised a swap deal with Boulaye Dia, who Everton are thought to be interested in.
That’s a move that would work well for all parties involved, although football transfers tend not to follow logic most of the time.
