Tottenham Hotspur star Cristian Romero has ended up on Real Madrid’s agenda, according to Fichajes.net.
The Champions League winners are keen to add a new centre-back to their squad next season and have identified RB Leipzig star Joško Gvardiol as their main target.
Los Blancos will face competition from several European clubs to sign the Croatian. They have identified the Tottenham defender as ‘plan B’, if they fail to seal a deal for Gvardiol.
The Argentina international is a fundamental figure at the north London club and also for his national team, who won the World Cup in December.
Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez sees the 24-year-old as a ‘more than [an] interesting option’ to bolster his side’s defence in the next window. Carlo Ancelotti is also an admirer of the Spurs centre-back and sees him as an ‘ideal’ candidate to play alongside Éder Militão.
Romero’s contract expires in 2027 and Tottenham aren’t interested in selling him. This is going to be a barrier for the La Liga side to secure his services.
If Spurs don’t come up with a project to challenge for trophies, it’s suggested he would be interested in leaving them. This may please Real Madrid, should they fail to sign Gvardiol.
