Sevilla believe ‘deep down’ that Aston Villa will simply ‘pay up’ for director of football Monchi eventually and are already moving to secure his replacement.
That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who say the Spanish club are continuing to point to his release clause and insisting that be paid if he is to leave this summer.
Monchi has found himself in the middle of a battle for his future over the last week after reports emerged that Aston Villa were keen to hire him as their director of football following their failure to hire Mateu Alemany.
Monchi is seemingly keen on the move and a departure from Sevilla, but the Europa League champions are playing hardball, insisting his release clause be paid if he is to move anywhere.
That’s not gone down well with Monchi, who has had a very public falling out with his current employers over the matter.
Aston Villa, meanwhile, continue to try and hire him and reports last night indicated that they had sent a delegation over to Spain in an effort to resolve the matter once and for all.
They need to work with Sevilla and Estadio say their stance remains the same, they ‘continue to refer’ to Monchi’s exit clause and that if it is not paid, there is nothing to be done.
They believe ‘deep down’ that in the end Aston Villa will simply ‘pay up’ to get Monchi and they’re already moving to secure his replacement. They don’t believe the matter should extend beyond this week.
Canal Sur Radio, relayed by Vamos Sevilla, say differently, though, with journalist Ismael Medina reporting that Aston Villa want to sign Monchi for free and not pay anything for him.
The whole situation is a mess, to say the least, and all seems to be dependent on Villa’s desire to pay for Monchi.
