Chelsea have been linked with a move for AS Roma’s Manu Kone and there is rising belief a deal could yet be possible.
Earlier this week, Sport Witness covered claims about the Blues’ interest in the France international. He was viewed as a replacement for Enzo Fernandez but the London were making several considerations before making formal contact.
Due to the paucity of time, it was easy to doubt if a deal would be possible or not. A deal, if Chelsea wanted, was expected to cost over €50m.
Now, contacts between the two clubs could soon be underway.
Good relationship between the clubs
Alfredo Pedulla reports that Roma and Chelsea can initiate direct discussions by noon for a deal involving Kone. This could also involve Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, who has been a target for the Italian club for two weeks now.
Initially, the Blues had rejected the idea of letting the winger depart on a loan deal. But since they now want Kone, they are opening up to a favourable deal for Bynoe-Gittens.
This has given Roma hope of signing the attacker on an initial loan. While Gian Piero Gasperini clarified yesterday that Kone isn’t for sale, Chelsea could now push for him.
The relationship between the two clubs is excellent. This can help in the two moves, with the idea gaining traction once again.
Little time left for complex deal
If Bynoe-Gittens is to join Roma, a lot of discussions are needed. And if Kone is to be part of the move, the deal would get even more complex. It would require agreements from everyone and there may not be enough time for a deal.
Besides, the 25-year-old midfielder starred for Roma in their 4-0 win over Lecce. That is what led to Gasperini clarifying that he isn’t for sale.
So Chelsea clearly have their work cut out. If they want to sign Kone, they will have to hurry. Roma were open to a sale earlier in the window but that may not be the case now.
