Chelsea’s pursuit for Enzo Fernandez may not look as strong as before, but the Portuguese media is still certain the Blues are in the running for the player.
That’s why Benfica manager Roger Schmidt was asked about this subject in his latest press conference. There, he claimed the midfielder is completely focused on the Eagles, despite agitating for a move at the start of the month.
“When I see Enzo playing for Benfica, I see a player at a top level, who is very happy to be playing for the club. I don’t think there’s anything else on his mind,” said Roger Schmidt.
“I don’t expect to lose any of our players who are playing a lot and who are in the starting line-up. That’s why I see focus on players and that’s why I hope he stays.”
It’s Portuguese newspaper Record who covers these quotes, always pointing out that Chelsea ‘do not give up’ on signing Fernandez from Benfica.
It’s claimed that the Blues are preparing a new attempt to land the World Cup Champion, this time with an offer of €100m plus a couple of players.
However, the outlet continues to insist that Fernandez is not for sale, and that means Benfica are only letting him go in case his €120m release clause is triggered.
Contrary to what happened at the start of the month, the player is now behaving well and not forcing his way out, and a good incentive for that is that the Eagles are paying him €2m if he stays.
