Chelsea’s failure to secure a deal with Napoli for Victor Osimhen could have opened the door for Arsenal to get the striker.
That’s according to Il Matino, who pick up on news that the Blues have failed to work out a deal with Napoli including Romelu Lukaku.
They explain, via Sky Sports, that Chelsea had wanted to work out a deal for Osimhen that would see them bringing down his asking price by including Lukaku in any deal for him.
That, though, has not come to fruition as Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentis has blocked the proposal and insisted, he wants the full €120m release clause in the striker’s contract paid up.
That’s seen Chelsea pull away for the time being as they don’t have the financial power to do such a deal at this moment in time, potentially leaving the door open for Arsenal.
According to Il Matino the ‘warning light’ about the Gunners has been turned on again as they’ve always been following what happens with Osimhen with interest.
They know they could now relaunch an effort to get him and, unlike their London rivals, have an ‘absence of economic problems’ that will allow them to satisfy Napoli’s demands. In simpler terms, they can pay, and Chelsea cannot.
Paris Saint Germain are another potential suitor, but they remain in the background for now and haven’t started their own transfer window efforts as yet.
Thus, the opportunity is there for Arsenal to move in quickly and potentially get the striker they need, albeit at a huge cost.
