Celtic, Rangers and others failing to sign Djurgårdens IF’s Oskar Fallenius has left Brøndby IF disappointed. Martin O’Neill and Derek McInnes had looked at him in the summer window.
Celtic and Rangers’ interest in the winger isn’t new. In May 2025, Sport Witness covered a report from Sweden explaining the Scottish duo’s ‘great interest’.
A move never materialised in 2025 while O’Neill’s side and the Ibrox club were reportedly back in the mix in the last window.
Celtic and Rangers links
Brøndby signed the 24-year-old from Swedish side IF Brommapojkarna in January 2021. He struggled while in Denmark, managing two goals and one assist from 273 minutes from 13 matches.
In February 2023, the Danish club sold him to Djurgårdens IF, and Oskar Fallenius has been a regular since. He managed 12 goals and 16 assists from 115 matches for the Allsvenskan side.

The Superliga side retain a 15% sell-on clause and were banking on the Swede to leave, after reports linking him to Martin O’Neill’s side, Derek McInnes’ side and others.
His failure to join Celtic, Rangers or another club is disappointing for Brøndby. They are unlikely to profit from his future transfer as his contract with Djurgårdens IF expires in December.
The Danish season running on a different calendar presents that contract quirk. As things stand, the attacker will join a new club in January on a free transfer.
Player hints at January move
Sportbladet spoke to Oskar Fallenius to discuss a few topics, including his future. The newspaper makes no mention of Celtic, Rangers or any other club.
There are a few countries where the transfer window is still open and Sportbladet asked the attacker whether he’s open to a quick move.
“No, I find that hard to believe. I’ve planned to stay here until the contract expires and then we’ll take it from there,” he said.
The player is also refusing to rule out signing an extension with Djurgårdens IF.
“But we have quite a large squad right now, and I have ambitions. But I’ve been here for three and a half years now, and I think I’ll get a clear feeling after the season, so we’ll see what’s best for me and Djurgårdens IF,” Fallenius explained.
His admission hints at a free transfer in January. Celtic, Rangers and other clubs have to convince him with the sporting project and by offering a good financial package.
The interested parties don’t have to pay a fee, making the Swede’s signing a bargain deal in the next window.
