Arne Slot cannot say no to the possibility of managing Liverpool, who are a ‘special club’ that can tempt him away from Feyenoord.
That’s according to journalist Sjoerd Mossou, who believes the Dutchman is more than capable of replacing Jurgen Klopp.
Slot appears to be the number one candidate for Liverpool at this moment in time after they made their first official move for him this morning.
Talks have been opened with Feyenoord, who have already rejected Liverpool’s first bid for the Dutch manager and his backroom team, who he wants to take with him should he depart.
All indications are that a deal will be agreed at some point, although Feyenoord are remaining firm with their intention to get as good a price as possible for the manager who delivered the Eredivisie title last season.
The big question being asked is why the manager of the side currently second in the Eredivisie behind PSV Eindhoven has been targeted for the role by Liverpool, particularly when they appeared to be set on Sporting Club de Portugal manager Ruben Amorim a few days ago.
Some are already questioning the idea, but Mossou has no such concerns, despite admitting it’s an opportunity Slot simply can’t afford to pass up.
“I think he watches everything, if you mean what he is watching, then I think the Premier League,” he said.
“Or will there be a club from the category that you cannot say no to, and of course we can count Liverpool among them.
“Of course it would be great. And a very difficult job to succeed Jürgen Klopp. It is clear that he has the capacity. We agree that he could do it communicatively and tactically.
“You only have to look at the Feyenoord teams of the last three years. In the first year the team was of lower quality, but played very recognisable football and reached the final of the Conference League. You already saw what Slot wants, but he is also able to apply other tactics and turn games around.”
