Tottenham youngster Souza has emerged as part of Brazil’s long-term plans despite his limited opportunities in north London. The left-back is now reportedly on Carlo Ancelotti’s radar ahead of the 2030 World Cup cycle.

RTI Esporte reports the 20-year-old is one of the players being monitored by the Brazilian FA. The national team has begun planning for life beyond Douglas Santos. Notably, Santos will be 36 by the time the next World Cup is played.

The report claims Ancelotti’s coaching staff have started identifying younger options at left-back. Souza has impressed enough before his move to Tottenham to earn consideration. And he maintained his reputation despite making only a brief first-team appearance following his January transfer.

Spurs paid around €15m (£13m at the time) to sign the defender from Santos on a five-year contract earlier this year. He made his senior debut against Manchester United in February. According to the Brazilian report, he became the youngest Brazilian ever to feature for Tottenham.

The Brazilian outlet also points to Souza’s inclusion on the Golden Boy shortlist as another sign his reputation continues to grow across Europe. He is the only natural left-back among this year’s nominees.

Earlier this month, Argentine journalist Uriel Iugt reported that several Premier League clubs had made enquiries over a potential loan move for the 20-year-old. However, he added that Tottenham had no intention of allowing Souza to leave at that stage.

Whether that stance changes before the transfer window closes remains to be seen. For now, the Brazilian’s immediate future is still uncertain. Even so, his profile continues to rise both in England and with the Brazilian Football Confederation.
